The Monotonous Life

Yes, I’m that boring.

My Scrubs Music: 11-20

with 3 comments

On DeadOn last week I posted my Top 10 songs the show Scrubs have used during their seven seasons (and counting! yes!) on air. I love those songs but there are so many more to add. In fact, while I’m proud of my Top 10, there was one song that I wanted to use instead but didn’t because I couldn’t find the clip of the situation it was used on the show. So I’m adding my next 10 favorite songs the show has used throughout the show’s tenure. Most of them have the scene that goes with the song. Only two of them is just the song. But if you’re a fan of the show you’ll probably remember the scene just by reading the season and episode the song was featured in. Cause seriously, Scrubs has quite possibly the best music director out of any show on television right now.

So let’s get this started. Normally I wouldn’t have a jump, but this is a long post so it’s here.

20. “A Little Respect” by Erasure Season 1, Episode 3-My Best Friend’s Mistake

When Dr. Wen decides to play this song during surgery it becomes “like a virus” for the rest of the hospital staff. I thought this was a very creative way to use a song throughout an episode and it really does get stuck in your head after a while. “Give a little respect to The Todd.”

19. “Sideways” by Citizen Cope Season 5, Episode 4-My Jiggly Ball

I knew of this song before seeing it on Scrubs (for once) so it really excited me to hear it on the show. I kinda sorta get its usage, but I think maybe I would have gone with a different song. Mostly because the scenes where we see Kelso get caught by Elliot and him re-introducing her to the staff isn’t the heavy emotional stuff you would expect with a song like this. Although the next scene is. Anyway, My Jiggly Ball is in my Top 5 favorite episodes. I can’t honestly tell you why I love this one so much, but I do.

18. “Delirious Love” by Neil Diamond Season 5, Episode 24-My Transition

I’ll admit to not listening to a lot of Neil Diamond. Ok, I don’t listen to any Neil Diamond. But I really like this song. And once again, it’s the scene that makes me like the song. It was nice to see all the couples on Scrubs actually happy at the same time. I tried finding the complete last scene, from when the music started, but couldn’t find it. So here’s just the very last few moments.

17. “American Girl” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Season 3, Episode 1-My All-American Girl

Eh, not a Tom Petty fan either. But I loved this scene. It just screams out Elliot. And that’s the main reason for me liking the song. That’s pretty much the end of it.

16. “Alive with the Glory of Love” by Say Anything Season 6, Episode 22-My Point of No Return

I wasn’t a big fan of Season 6. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the show. But I felt like they were trying too hard. And good performances (like when Keri Russell guest starred for two shows) got over run by stupid gags (like the Chronicle of Narnia “my baaaad” thing). And even though it the way the season ended looked like Elliot and JD were going to get back together yet again, this song saved the scene for me. I wasn’t expecting to like it yet as with a lot of songs that get played on the show I immediately went and downloaded it. I will say this, it was a great cliffhanger.

15. “Good Life” by Francis Dunnery Season 1, Episode 6-My Bad

Another one of those sad but sweet songs everyone loves. We’re introduced to Jordan Sullivan, Dr. Cox’s ex-wife, for the first time and at the end of the episode Cox is thinking about the good times they shared together. This was one of those truly sweet moments we rarely see from Dr. Cox. Absolutely loved this scene. This isn’t the scene or the music video, just a vid someone put together. But go and try to find the scene. It’s really good.

14. “Good Time” by Leroy Season 1, Episode 2-My Mentor

This is just a fun song and yet another way I loved how the show used it. JD is working on a patient and listening to the song on his Walkman (heh. walkman) and he starts to see everyone in the hospital “play” the music in the song. And then after Kelso rips into him for listening to music and he leaves the patient’s room, JD walks by Janitor and he’s singing the song. Just a great opening scene.

13. “Boston” by Augustana Season 5, Episode 19-His Story III

This is yet another one of those songs that I first heard on Scrubs and loved instantly. And I think it’s one that everyone can relate, just wanting to go somewhere far away and starting over again. As for the scene-it’s really good, the patient thanking Janitor for staying and talking with him all day.

12. “In the Sun” by Joseph Arthur Season 5, Episode 5-My New God

I really love this song. When I first bought it from itunes it classified it as Alternative, but to me it sounds more like Christian Rock. And I don’t even listen to Christian Rock. The scene on the show was absolutely adorable. Jack (so cute!) is getting baptized and Dr. Cox’s sister Paige (played by Cheryl Hines) is his god mother. And at the end there is a good resolution scene between Cox and Paige.

11. “Something’s Always Wrong” by Toad the Wet Sprocket Season 2, Episode 6-My Big Brother

Okay, this one is a pure and simple personal choice. And if I could I would have had this in my Top 5, much less Top 10. But I couldn’t find this clip for anything so it got left off. And the pure and simple reason it would have been in the Top 5 is because it’s one of my favorite songs. The first time I had heard it was on Scrubs (I was like 5 when it first came out) and to this day I listen to it at least once a day. That’s how much I love it. Add in the fact that Tom Cavanagh is a part of it and you have yet another one of my all time favorite episodes.

As stated above, the Top 10 is at DeadOn. Go watch. Please?

  1. Boston is one of my favorite songs.

I love scrubs-not as much as my husband-but the show is very funny.

How much time did it take you to do this post?…I’m way too lazy.

  2. Not that long. I already had this big list of songs that I had complied a while ago and just went from there. The hardest part was ranking them. I’d say about an hour, but it probably wasn’t that long.
